The South Western Route to Brockwell Park 13 mins
Wednesday 5th August 2026 / 8:35 pm
Standing up from out of my bike seat, pushing rapidly, and weaving through the neighbourhood’s local stationary traffic, the journey was calm, peaceful, and moving at a swift pace.
I arrived at the park, breathing, normal, to the sound of several African bongo drummers hidden between tree’s ahead in the distance as the beautiful calling sounds of the drums welcomed everyone, to a serene evening.
I began with my hill ascent, up the tall hill, both arms pushing down on cow handlebars guiding the front wheel, weaving left to right, light work.
From the highest point, looking out from the top of the hill, the sun was slowly heading downwards, vertically.
But horizontally as the sun was approaching its sunset hour the rays shot out across extra distances, sharing a bright paint colour palette of blue and orange tints.
There was a speedster cyclist who had passed me earlier on in the journey making it look like light work .
“Hi, I said, you were the person that passed me 20 mins ago in the same journey to be here this fine evening”
“Oh I see” he replied with a smile yes that was me.
“I remember the low seated position and the tattoo on your calf”
He replied
“What is your name”?
“Paul” I replied
“My name is Edwin”
“How long you been riding?” (I asked)
(Edwin replied)
“Since age 26 I am now 34, I am a speed racer”
Staring at his unusual speedster bike, admiring his biking gear and cleats,
I asked, “who do you race with a club?”
Edwin replied, “No I do this on my own” (he’s been reading my thought philosophy, you go at your own pace, stop when you want, decide the routes you take, and when you stop for a break, you make all those decisions as a solo cyclist)🚴 😊
On close facial analysis, I asked Edwin
“Are you from Peru”?
Edwin replied,
“No, I am from Equador
“Ah still South America”
“The sunset has completed now” Edwin said
Greeting me with a knuckle touch
Edwin then said stay “cycle safe,” as he sped off at high speed into the early night, leaving behind a trail of wind as his legs pushed into the fast rotation of the peddles and crank.
The cyclist that sped super past me in my local area, with me thinking to myself at the time who’s that, was now the very same person I just met at the top of the hill, in this story.
I will belief in me and say to myself for encouragement, Edwin went past you 2 minutes after you leaving home into your park journey, a mystery cyclist to begin with, who you then rode up to at at the same park, and greeted him, you were now side by side, both bikes, I can honestly believe to myself, I took the shortest route, and made it their before him, in fact I really did, make it to that point before him.
*The small yet massive joys in life had just played out perfectly, reminding me that my descision to do everything that was necessary this day, in all the sequences and processes was exactly what was mapped, and this only ride out for me on this evening proved to be an absolutely decisive decision that provided more than I had ever imagined.
Embrace your potential, abilities and gifts with Love and appreciation for people and life.
*The end starts right back at the beginning!!!*
